Description of Sugar Cane Wax Extract,Rice bran wax extract,Octacosanol Policosanol Sugar cane wax extract and rice bran wax extract are natural wax-derived raw materials rich in long-chain aliphatic alcohols, commonly referred to as policosanol. These extracts are obtained through controlled purification processes from plant-based waxes and are widely used as functional ingredient sources in nutraceutical, food, cosmetic, and industrial applications.
Policosanol is not a single compound but a mixture of several higher fatty alcohols, among which octacosanol is the predominant component. Typical policosanol profiles contain approximately 60% octacosanol, followed by triacontanol, with smaller amounts of other naturally occurring alcohols such as behenyl alcohol, lignoceryl alcohol, ceryl alcohol, heptacosanol, nonacosanol, dotriacontanol, and geddyl alcohol. The exact composition may vary depending on the botanical source and processing method.
Commercial policosanol raw materials are produced from multiple natural wax sources, including sugar cane wax, rice bran wax, and beeswax. Sugar cane wax–derived policosanol has historically been the most widely studied, while rice bran wax extract has gained increasing attention as a plant-based alternative source with stable supply and consistent quality. Both sugar cane wax extract and rice bran wax extract provide octacosanol and related fatty alcohols suitable for formulation use.
Due to their natural origin and favorable stability characteristics, sugar cane wax extract and rice bran wax extract containing octacosanol and policosanol are commonly positioned as nutraceutical or functional raw materials. They are supplied as powders or concentrates for further formulation rather than as finished consumer products, allowing manufacturers flexibility in product development across different application areas.

Application of Sugar Cane Wax Extract,Rice bran wax extract,Octacosanol Policosanol 1. Policosanol is a cholesterol-lowering natural mixture of primary alcohols, isolated and purified from sugar cane wax. Policosanol is safe and well tolerated, even in populations with high use of concomitant medications.
2. Lipid profile improvements with the use of policosanol are seen in healthy volunteers, patients with type II hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), type 2 diabetics with hypercholesterolemia, postmenopausal women with hypercholesterolemia, and patients with combined hypercholesterolemia and abnormal liver function tests. However, there is controversy in this are based on recent negative evidence.
3. Policosanol has performed equal to or better than simvastatin, pravastatin, lovastatin, probucol, or acipimox with fewer side effects in patients with type II hypercholesterolemia.
4. Policosanol is used for conditions that affect the health of the heart and blood vessels including high cholesterol, leg pain due to poor circulation (intermittent claudication), and narrowing of the blood vessels that serve the heart.
5. Policosanol seems to decrease cholesterol production in the liver and to increase the break down of LDL (low-density lipoprotein or "bad") cholesterol. It also decreases the stickiness of particles in the blood known as platelets, which might help reduce blood clots.
